Would you rather travel by plane or by car?

Definitely picking the car every time. Plane is a bit more overwhelming since it feels like there's a bunch of people trapped in a case for what feels like a million miles away from earth! And here's the moment where all the anxious-neurotic-soon-to-be-flight-attendants(just like yours truly:P) start panicking and throw tomatoes this way:P Definitely not helping, right?! "Back to top" button tutorial

Hi everybody! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic?! So let's get started then! Without further ado, the topic for today is: add a floating "back to top" button. This tutorial is going to be fun and simple, so what are we waiting for?!.. Let's start the party!

1. First step, you have to upload your own picture to an image hosting website, such as Flickr, ImageShack, TinyPic, or any other.

2. Now you're ready to get to the next step, so you need to sign in your blogger "Dashboard", go to "Design" and then press the "Edit HTML" tab.

3. Next, scroll down the page until you find this tag, or simply use the Ctrl + F (for Windows users) or Command + F (for MAC users) combination on your keyboard to find it faster:

4. Once you found it, add the following piece of code right above it:

5. Now you need to replace the IMAGE URL text in the above code, with the actual URL of your image uploaded on an image hosting website. The end result should look something similar to this:

6. You can change the placement of the button by changing the numbers in the code. The higher the numbers, the farther away from the respective sides of your blog, the button will be.

7. After adding your image URL and customizing the distance between the button and the bottom/right sides of your blog, preview your work, and if everything works out as you want, you can now go ahead and click "save template".

Numbering Post Comments

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! Then let's get started! Without further ado, the topic for today is: numbering post comments. This is one of the most wanted tutorials that we've received requests for. Due to the versatility of it, we decided to finally present you the most updated version of this little trick.

There are many versions to accomplish this, depending on what blog template you use, but basically this tutorial is applicable to the majority of templates. In just a few easy steps, this little tutorial will help the ones who need an accountability of their comments for either their giveaways, contests with prizes, or for simply marketing purposes. Now let's begin this tutorial!

1. As always, before doing any changes, make sure you save your current blog's template by signing in your "Dashboard" and then go to "Design" and select the "Edit HTML" tab and press "Download Full Template".

2. After you saved your blog's current template, make sure you have your comments embedded below posts, and not the pop-up version. If you are not sure of that, you can change this by going to "Settings", click on the "Comments" tab, and third row down the line you will find this option. Make sure you check the "Embedded below post" bullet!

3. Now that we have everything prepared for the trick, let's begin the numbering comments process. You first need to go to "Design" tab then hit the "Edit Html" button. Make sure you check the "Expand Widget Templates" option and look for this piece of code as shown in the picture below, by either scrolling down or simply using the Ctrl + F (for Windows users) or Command + F (for MAC users) combination on your keyboard:

4. Now that you found the code, paste this code immediately under it, as shown in the picture above:

5. Next step is to look for this piece of code:

6. And add this code immediately under it as shown in the picture above:

7. On the next step you need to look for this piece of code:

8. And add this attribute to the code immediately before the closing tag of the line, as shown in the picture above:

9. Just a couple more steps and we're there, so now look for this code:

Preview your work, and if there's no parsing mistakes and everything works(even tough you probably won't be able to see the numbering in the preview), you can go ahead and click "save template". And your final result should be something similar to this:

Replace Next/Previous/Home Buttons

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! Then let's get started! Without further ado, the topic for today is: how to replace the next/previous/home buttons with your desired ones. This will make your blog unique and special and it's not even that hard to do. So let's proceed with the tutorial:)

1. First thing, you need to save your current blog's template by signing in your "Dashboard" and then go to "Design" and select the "Edit HTML" tab and press "Download Full Template".

2. After you saved your blog's current template, make sure you check the "Expand Widget Templates" option and look for this piece of code as shown in the picture below, by either scrolling down or simply using the Ctrl + F (for Windows users) or Command + F (for MAC users) combination on your keyboard:

3. Now that you found the code paste this piece of code instead of it:

4. Next step is to replace the "YOUR IMAGE LINK" with the actual link of your first image. Previous to this step, you should upload your desired pictures you want to use for this project(size max. 120px wide and 70px high) on an image hosting website, such as Flickr, ImageShack, TinyPic, etc., from where you can get the link of your image that you need.

5. Once you're done with uploading the pictures to the image hosting site and adding the respective image link inside of the code from step 3, you need to look for this piece of code:

6. Now that you found the code paste this piece of code instead of it:

7. Next step after you replace the "YOUR IMAGE LINK" with the actual link of your second image, look for this piece of code:

8. Now that you found the code paste this piece of code instead of it and don't forget to replace the "YOUR IMAGE LINK" with the actual link of your third image:

9. Last step before saving is previewing your work, and if it looks good then hit "Save Template", and your blog should look something similar from this:

And just a side note, if you want to place the buttons from "next" and "previous" the other way around, as in change the left side and right side in between them, just switch the replacing code from step 3 with the one from step 6 and you'll get the buttons placed the opposite side.

Add Icon Before The Post Title

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! Then let's get started! Without further ado, the topic for today is: how to add an icon before the post title. This will make your blog unique and special and it's not even that hard to do. So let's cut it short and proceed with the tutorial:)

1. First thing, you need to save your current blog's template by signing in your "Dashboard" and then go to "Design" and select the "Edit HTML" tab.

2. After you saved your blog's current template, make sure you check the "Expand Widget Templates" option and look for this piece of code as shown in the picture below, by either scrolling down or simply using the Ctrl + F (for Windows users) or Command + F (for MAC users) combination on your keyboard:

Different Backgrounds For Each Post

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! Then let's get started! Without further ado, the topic for today is: how to create different backgrounds for each post. This will definitely be a super hit especially if your blog focuses on more topics:)

1. This little trick it's as easy as 1, 2, 3. First thing, you need to sign in your blog's "Dashboard" and then go to "Posting" and select the "New Post" tab. Make sure you're in the "Edit Html" composing mode as shown in the picture below:

2. Now before you start writing your post as you regularly do, you need to add this piece of code in your blog's text editor:

3. Once you added the code, you now need to upload the picture you want to use as the post's background to a free image web-host. A few examples are: Flickr, ImageShack, TinyPic, etc.

4. Once you have uploaded your picture, you need to copy the direct link of your picture and paste it instead of "YOUR_PICTURE'S_LINK" part of the code given in the second step of this tutorial. If you don't know how a "picture's link" looks like, here's an example:

5. Now you can start typing your post, but your text should be written before the ending "div" tag as shown in the picture below:

How to create "Roll Over" pictures

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! Then let's get started! This tutorial will be focusing on some special features for our blog posts, so the topic for today is: how to create the roll over pictures. This will definitely help if you want to showcase "before" and "after" pictures or close-ups of your favorite crafts:) And more important, you can do this trick in many ways, but today we'll present you just two of them that use the same code but apply it differently.

1. The easier way to achieve this is to easily sign your blog's "Dashboard" and then go to "Design" and hit the "Page Elements" tab. Now go ahead and add an HTML/Java Script gadget on either sidebar, and then skip to step 3 of this tutorial.

2. The more complicated way to achieve this, is by signing in your blog's "Dashboard" and then go to "Design" and make sure you're on the "Edit HTML" tab. Once you're there, scroll down and find the "body" end tag exactly as shown in the picture below:

3. Now if you chose the first way to do this trick, simply place this code in the HTML/Java Script gadget you added, or if you chose the other way, then place the same code immediately above the "body" end tag, and don't forget to press the "Save"/"Save Template" button, at the end:

4. From this step forward, the next steps are the same regardless the way you chose to do this trick. So, now you need to go back to "Posting" and then click the "New Post" button and make sure you're in the "Edit Html" writing mode instead of "Compose".

5. Now upload your first picture normally. Instead of the picture itself you will see a weird long string of script because you're in the "Edit Html" writing mode. That's ok. Now upload your second picture the same way, but be aware that its string of script will appear up first on your writing editor, so you need to cut it and paste it after the first string of script you uploaded. Now you have the correct order. Don't switch between "Edit Html" mode and "Compose" mode during writing your post or else your coding won't apply and you'll need to start the uploading pictures process again.

6. Now comes the last step before you publish your post. You need to post this piece of code BEFORE the codes of the pictures:

7. Then place this piece of code AFTER the codes of the pictures:

8. And lastly, add this feature to the SECOND picture's code right after the "<a" tag like in the image shown above:

9. Now you hit "Publish Post" and go back and you will see your first picture up front and when you roll your mouse over it, the second one will show up. You can use this feature for a close up of your initial picture or to showcase some beautiful "before" and "after" shots.

There's one thing you need to know: you can post only two picture at once using this method: one that will be the initial front picture and one that will show up once you roll over it. If you want to post multiple roll over pictures, you need to repeat steps 4 to 8.
But I must say that using this special effect feature will be a super hit with your readers, so hope this little tutorial will help you display your pictures in a more organized way with a better impact on your readers:)

Create "after the jump" Post Summaries

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! Then let's start our engines! This tutorial will be focusing on some special features for our blog posts, so the topic for today is: how to create "after the jump" post summaries. This will definitely help you catch your reader's eye with the main phrase of your post and display as many posts as you'd like without having to scroll down for five minutes until you reach the bottom of your main page:)

1. First thing, you need to sign in your blog's "Dashboard" and then go to "Posting" and make sure you're on the "New Post" tab.

2. Now there's two methods you can do the post summaries. If you're using the old editor to write your posts, the only thing you need to do is make sure you're in the "Edit Html" mode and then add this piece of code where you'd like your post summary to stop, like shown above.

3. If your using the new editor you need to make sure you're in the "Compose" mode and look for the "Insert Jump Break" button like shown in the picture below.

4. Now hit "Publish Post" when you think you're done and voila! This is how the blog post should show before the jump break:

5. And this is how the post should look after pressing the "Read more" button:

6. Now you can even change the link to say what you want. You can customize the "Read more" button by going to "Design", then on the "Page Elements" tab and then hit the "Edit" button in the "Blog Posts" area.

7. Now a pop up window will appear. On the top right corner of the pop up window you will find a field that says "Read more". That's where you can click and write you own message. Now on top of that field there's also the option where you can choose the number of post you want to display on your main page, so you can take care of that now too.

8. After you're done, you hit "Save" and enjoy the new post summaries you just created. Hope this little tutorial will help you display as many posts as you'd like without actually showing the entire post content on the main page:)

How To Remove The Posting Date

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! Then let's get going! Today's tutorial will be focusing on making our blogs look more professional, so the topic for today is: how to remove the posting date. This will definitely help you free up some space in the most visually targeted spot on your blog, as well as make your overall blog look more professionally:)

1. First thing, you need to sign in your blog's "Dashboard" and then go to "Design" and hit the "Page Elements" tab.

2. Now scroll down and hit the "Edit" button on the "Blog Posts" area.

3. A pop-up window will open. Next thing, you will need to unmark the first and the third bullet and then hit "Save".

4. Now make sure to click the "Save" button in the "Add and Arrange Page Elements" area, and you're done.

That's it! No more dates and other unnecessary lines that occupy space and distract attention from the posts. Hope this little tutorial will help you on the way of getting your blog look a little more professional and have fun with it:)

Add a header to your blog

Hi all! Are you ready for a new blog tutorial here at Design It Chic!?! All right, then let's get down to business! Many of you have asked about this one, so without further ado, the topic for today is: how to add a header to your blog. So here's the chance to get rid of that old school text to the top of your blog:)

1. First thing you need to create a header of 760px wide either using a free software like GIMP or a paid software like Photoshop or you can simply pay a small fee to a designer to create it for you. Once you have the header image, here's how you can install it in your blog without it interfering with your blog title.

2. You need to sign in your blog's Dashboard first and then go to Design.

3. Now hit the "Edit" button on the "(Header)" area. A pop-up window will open. You will need to mark the "From your computer" bullet and add the image from where you have it saved on you computer.

4. Then make sure you check the "Instead of title and description" option.

5. And now click Save.

That's it! You can now enjoy your new header without the fuss of having to deal with that old school text in your header area. Hope this little tutorial will help you have more fun with your blogs and enjoy every single bit of it:)

We are very excited over the 2011 plans! We always make resolutions on New Year's Eve, but we also focus on keeping them realistic and writing them down as a list of things to do. If we knock most of them down, that's awesome! If not, there's the next year to take over again. It might sound like a waste of time to make resolutions if you don't get to accomplish all of them, but it's not quite so. For some, a go-as-it-comes deal might work perfect, but for us, we need the plans. So Hear-Hear to a new year full of plans and joy! What about you guys? Easy steps to a successful blog!

Hello everybody! New week starting of great and since the end of the year is coming up close, we'll be featuring some of our best blog tutorials going on this year. So if you've missed any HTML tips or any improving your website tricks, brought to you by Design It Chic, here's the chance of catching up with them all:)

Today we'll be focusing on how to make and maintain your blog clutter-free!

The first trick we need to know when we create our blog, is that the homepage is what gets our visitors to stay or leave. So putting a bit more time and effort into making that page more readers-friendly, is the great start to a successful blog! If you feel a bit disoriented and need some help, here are just a few quick tricks to guide you through achieving a great homepage!

Now that you captured your readers' attention, you need to offer them great content through your blog. There's so many blogs with amazing content and because they don't know how to serve it to their readers, not too many notice them. So in the hope that you won't be one of those unnoticed blogs, you need to focus your attention on your posts decluttering. If you need guidance, here is a great list of things you can do to easily present your posts in a much appealing way!

Taking care of your posts is as important as brushing off your sidebars and your blog's footer. You need to have information available for your readers, or else they will drop you like a wet dog in the streets:P In order to prevent that, we made up a step-by-step list on how to declutter your blog's sidebars and footer!

And since we all know how time is important to each and one of us, we need to consider that for our reader's sake too. Maybe someone likes your article and would like to comment you with either a question or to just congratulate you on your writing skills. In return, as a sign of appreciation and consideration, you also need to make this process easier for the reader. So keeping your comments process easy, will actually go a long run! Design It Chic: Hi Jocelyn! Can you tell us a few words about yourself?

Jocelyn: I am a SAHM to 3 great kids and I am married to my absolute best friend in the world. I like to keep myself busy with family, church, crafts, and baking.

Design It Chic: So nice to meet you:) And since we know a bit more about you now, tell us what's your little business about!

Jocelyn: One of my crafts for the past 2 years has been making hair accessories for my daughter and myself. This past February I took the plunge and started an Etsy store to sell my fabric flower creations to everyone else.

Design It Chic: That is so lovely! And who doesn't love girlie stuff?! Especially those adorable headbands and those amazingly cute flower necklaces are going down on our favorite list. But what is your muse when you create? What does inspire you?

Jocelyn: I get inspired looking at all the beautiful fabrics that I find. It is so much fun to lay them all out on my table and start pairing different ones together. I also get inspired by color combos that I see in stores, online, or in nature.

Design It Chic: So very interesting! And since you have an inspiration source, we bet you also have a target. So who do you create for? What is the profile of the women you create your accessories for?

Jocelyn: There is no limit to who I create for. I can see these headbands/clips on girls and women of all ages. My daughter is 9 and I am 34, and we both wear the same ones. They are just so much fun for adding color to your wardrobe and hair.

Design It Chic: Awesome! And seeing that you have so many new designs in your store already, are you planning on something special for this Holiday Season?

Jocelyn: I am just trying to continually add new items so that there is a good variety for people to shop from. There just might be another sale before Christmas, but you will have to follow me on my Facebook fan page to find out when that might be:)

Design It Chic: We hear you also have a blog, right?! Tell us a bit what's going on in there?

Jocelyn: Yes, I am always posting some fun new baking or a crafty project for all my blog readers. Come check out the fun at Inside Bru Crew Life!

Design It Chic: That sounds so exciting! But do you find any time for family and friends with all that busy schedule?

Jocelyn: My family always has to come first. They mean the world to me, so I have keep my priorities in order. I try to do all my projects when they are at school or sleeping. I am a night owl too, so most of my creations happen late at night.

Design It Chic: We bet! And tell us what are your plans for Christmas? Attending any craft shows? Showcase your amazing accessories to any local store or perhaps a magazine?

Jocelyn: I was able to participate in a local craft fair in November and it was so much fun getting my name out to the community. That was the only one that I signed up for this year though. I am keeping busy with lots of custom headband orders/clips this month. I hadn't thought about local stores or magazines...what a great idea. I might have to check into that:)

Design It Chic: Hi Elizabeth, can you introduce yourself in just a few words?

Elizabeth: Hi there! I am Elizabeth, the creator of Sew Chatty! I'm a crafty stay at home mommy with an Etsy shop and a blog! So blessed to be doing what I love!

Design It Chic: You are such a lovely lady! Can you also share with us a bit about your business?

Elizabeth: Awww, thanks so much! The idea of the business came about this time last year when I was making Christmas gifts for friends and family. Times are tough around here and we didn't have enough money to buy gifts so I went the handmade route (grocery totes, cookies with handmade ornaments, etc...) and everyone LOVED it. So much in fact that they all said I should start my own business so...here I am!

Design It Chic: We see you have such adorable ruffled items. Now, who doesn't love ruffles, right?

Elizabeth: Hi my name is Elizabeth, and I'm a ruffleholic!

Design It Chic: We should open a ruffle lovers club:) ha ha But how do you choose your materials? Do you have any suppliers or designers you prefer?

Elizabeth: I am just now getting into using more designer fabric. Before I was too cheap to spring for the good stuff, but it really does makes such a difference in the finished look of an item. Those designers know what they're doing! I get most of my fabric from an amazingly huge discount fabric store I am blessed to live close to. It's called M&L in Anaheim, CA. I also get a lot of fabric online from Hawthorne Threads. Can't wait to get my hands on some of the new Innocent Crush line from the amazing Anna Maria Horner!

Design It Chic: So fancy:) And do you have any golden rules when it comes to matching colors?

Elizabeth: No not really. I like to think I have a fairly good eye for matching colors and patterns. However because I am using more and more designer fabric, I try to stick within the line. The fabric designers really take a lot of the guesswork out of matching up fabrics!

Design It Chic: Awesome. You know, people always wonder if business owners offer gifts from their store to the loved ones on Christmas. Do you do that? Do you create something special for everyone in your family or Target is a much easier way to go?:)

Elizabeth: Well, I do love me some Target(my happy place!), but I will be making gifts for friends and family again this year. In the culture we live in, we really don't need anything, so a nice small handmade gift is perfect.

Design It Chic: We hear you also have a blog right? Tell us a bit what's going on in there!

Elizabeth: Yes I do have a blog and there are lots of fun things going on over there! On Mondays I do a link party called "Made with Love Monday" where crafty ladies can come and link up their handmade goodness. Wednesdays I feature one of my favorite handmade businesses. Supporting handmade is very important to me. Throughout the week I'll do some "Behind the Scenes" posts to give my readers a sneak peak at some of the chaos! I also try and do a "What I've been working on" post with a shop update so everyone can see all the fun new things I'm creating. And lastly, I try to do at least one personal post a week about the happenings of home and my little family. I want my readers to really get a sense of who I am.

Design It Chic: Sounds exciting! But can you tell us a blooper from behind your blog or your store? We love laughing!

Elizabeth: Well this is amusing now, but it wasn't a few weeks ago! Let me preface by saying I am pretty much self taught so I learn as I go. I was making some ruffley checkbook covers for an upcoming boutique. I was assembly line sewing because I needed to crank out like 10 of them. Got to the very LAST step and realized I had sewn the ruffle in the wrong place. On all of them!!! Let me also say that my seam ripper and I are not friends so instead of ripping them apart, I decided to get creative and turned the checkbook covers into wristlets! I called it "My Happy Little Accident" and blogged about it! They nearly sold out at the boutique too!

Design It Chic: Perhaps, we should open a laughing club too:) ha ha:) And to wrap it up, can you please tell us what is your surprise for our readers today?

Design It Chic: Hi Dalia! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Dalia: Nice to meet you all. I'm from New York City. I have always been a crafty child thanks to my creative and talented mom. Seems like many of us get it from our mothers, hee, hee. I used to design clothes years ago, my family thought for sure I was going to make a career out of it, but to their surprise, I pursued the fashion business world instead. I was fascinated by it and did that for several years. I am currently a wife and mom, wanna be photographer, Etsy gal, crafter and blogger.

Design It Chic: Nice to meet you too friend! The rumors on the street has it that you're a very crafty lady, can you tell us more about your business?

Dalia: Yes of course. I have always been crafty and enjoy making a lot of different things, but something drew me toward making glass magnets, necklaces and push pins and before I knew it, I started selling by word of mouth and then opened a shop at Etsy. I think it was the fact that I couldn't find the designs that I wanted. I already knew that there were many "magnet" designs out there and I didn't want to compete with them, and noticed there was a market left out. At the time, no one was designing magnets, pins or necklaces for the Christian community, that was my "aha" moment. Now there are many, so my designs vary.

Design It Chic: LOVE IT! Your necklaces and pins are so unique, but what do you do to showcase them to the world?

Dalia: I first started advertising in a couple of blogs, but that was a bit expensive, so I showcased them through the social media, shortly after I decided to have my own blog to showcase them..

Design It Chic: We can't help but wonder, why glass? Why not plastic or wood or perhaps marshmallows?:) ha ha

Dalia: Ha, ha, that would be interesting. I personally chose glass because it is easy to work with and easy for me to have in stock than other items. The best part is, if I make a mistake, it is a lot easier to fix than lets say wood. I also think it has a beautiful quality to it when you view the art work.

Design It Chic: Very interesting! Do you plan on any new designs for the Holiday season?

Dalia: I have a few in mind, but I am still working on designs so stay tuned.

Design It Chic: We see that you also have a blog. Can you tell us what's going on in there?

Dalia: The blog is mainly to showcase the pieces I make, but I also post random everyday things such as family moments and crafts and try to support other blogers who have great stories to tell, that way I don't bore readers with just my shop. I also like to support my Etsy community by displaying things that I find interesting. I don't get paid to promote anyone or anything, it's all my own opinion.

Design It Chic: Awwwww hearing blogers' stories always makes us jump up and down, because we're all about encouraging and empowering fellow blogers in here. And speaking of fellow blogers, what would be the #1 advice that you'd give to a newbie blogger and business owner?

Dalia: Stay focused! Know what you want to blog about, do it and stick with it. A creative design for your blog doesn't hurt either. As a business owner, if you are going to showcase your work, have great clear pictures. The better the quality of the picture the better response you will have.

Design It Chic: Very inspiring! Now for the funny part, can you also share with us a blooper from behind your store or blog? Love a good laugh:)

Dalia: This is a tough one. I would have to say that I once got up late at night because I forgot to post something and my husband asked where I was going, so I told him I was going to take my vitamins, which was true, but then I sat down and started working. Shortly after, I heard from a distance, " Are you making your own vitamins? What's taking you so long?" I had to shut down quick before he could catch me working again, it was a close call, ha, ha.

Design It Chic: Hi Jessica, to get the mood setting, tell us a joke!

Jessica: I live in Idaho (that’s not the joke) and we’ve already had snow. I even saw a few snowmen in town! So here’s a joke to go along with that: Two snowmen are standing in a field. One says to the other, “Funny, I smell carrots,too.”

Design It Chic: Ha ha.. that was so funny:) Now that the air is a little lighter, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Jessica: I have always loved using my hands to create things. Ever since I can remember, I've been drawing, crafting, creating. But I'd have to say that my longest creative love is drawing. It will always have a special place in my heart:) I have lived in Idaho my whole life, except for 3 months after I got married to my best friend, Daniel. We lived in his home state of Oregon for a summer, and although it was beautiful and green, I was glad to be back home! We finished college together, both Elementary Education majors. Now I am a stay at home mom to one little boy, and I love it! My husband loves his job teaching. I decided to start this little cupcake wrapper business to help out in my own way. A habit of mine is always getting into something new. Within the last few years, I've gained another new crafting love--paper! And I've found a lot of ways to use it... Lately, I enjoy paper crafting, photography, and playing in Photoshop!

Design It Chic: And we see you have a beautiful little online store too. Can you tell us a bit about it and how it started?

Jessica: Sure! I make and sell cupcake wrappers! I was watching Cupcake Wars on Food Network, and I thought, “Wow! Cupcakes are really popular these days!” We had just made a trip to Oregon and I remembered seeing a bunch of cupcake shops on the way…and the cupcake shop here in my hometown…and then it just dawned on me…”I should make cupcake wrappers!” So I got started right away.

Design It Chic: Love hearing the history of a business. But how do you keep it always fresh and come up with something new every time?

Jessica: Well, with all the cute paper available I can always find something new! I just love going to the craft store and filling my cart up with papers that spark my imagination. I try to think of themes and patterns that people could use for special occasions and holidays. I sell a large variety of cupcake wrappers, with themes ranging from baby showers, to birthdays, weddings, holidays, children, and more! I also have several DIY Printable Cupcake Wrappers--this is my Black and White Damask set.

Design It Chic: And do you have any specials for this Holiday season?

Jessica: I am making Christmas cupcake wrappers all the time. I post new ones every few days or so, and I also have some Thanksgiving themed ones. I am having a special on my Christmas Solids—Red and Green (shown below)—If you need more than 12 of these, you just have to buy one set at $4.50, and then each set after that is only $3.99!

Design It Chic: Wow! Those are cute! And speaking of cute, we see you have a little blog too. How do you combine your life as a blogger with working on your little business? Is it hard to manage both?

Jessica: The purpose of my blog is to promote and feature handmade items. I also post new cupcake wrappers I am working on. I occasionally post crafts or projects that I’ve made, but it’s mostly to show people all the great handmade items you can find online. The way it’s going right now, I feel that it’s manageable, but I do spend more time with my shop:)

Design It Chic: And as every good business has a funny behind-the-scenes story, tell us a funny blooper from your store or blog. We always love to laugh here:)

Jessica: Okay, here goes. I go to the craft store EVERY day. We only have one craft store here, so I can’t even alternate between two. I always wonder just before I walk in, “Are they going to notice I’m here again?” I try not to make eye contact. I even have these silly ideas that maybe the employees make bets in the break room as to whether or not I will come in today. Well, my fears came true the other day when I was at checkout----the cashier looked at me and said….”I see you here, like, EVERY day.” I felt myself blush and I just smiled and said, “Yah, I buy a lot of paper.” :) Now that it’s out in the open that I’m there all the time, I can just go in and not worry about it!

Design It Chic: Hi Stefanie, can you introduce yourself in just a few words?

Stefanie: My daytime job is marketing so a few words are hard for me, but I’ll try do my best: I’m 41 years old and live in Cologne, Germany. One of the biggest jokes of my life is that actually my last name is Teufel, which means devil in English, so you can imagine I had a fun time in school:)

Design It Chic: Fun time indeed:) Now that we know a bit more about you, can you share with us what's your business about?

Stefanie: I guess it is all about colors and fibers. I love to create and express myself. For me it’s really relaxing to work with all those beautiful beads, fibers and fabrics after returning home from work. And all the vibrant colors I tend to work with lighten up my mood. I also try to incorporate fair traded beads and recycled sari ribbon into my work. You actually help Asian and African women buying this - I love that idea!

Design It Chic: That's such a beautiful concept! But how did you start on designing jewelry?

Stefanie: I've been born with a magpie gen - so when I come across beads or fabric I feel the urgent need to collect them. But to be honest - how many beads and how much fabric can you pile up? That was the moment I decided to share some of my treasures to make room for new items that desperately need a home:-)

Design It Chic: Interesting! Do you have a strategy when you combine your materials and colors?

Stefanie: Can’t say so. Creating jewelry is a spontaneous process - at least for me. But ideas strike me everytime and everywhere and sometimes it’s hard to wait till I get home and try if this particular idea really works out..

Design It Chic: Fair enough:) We see that you have a pretty blog too. How do you use it to advertise your jewelry business?

Stefanie: I had my blog before I’ve started my Etsy-shop. So it’s more of a personal thing. I show my creations there and tell my readers a bit of my inspiration or how I did the particular item. But I also write about places or exhibitions I visited and so on. But of course I link to my shop so that my visitors know where to find my items if they want to.

Design It Chic: Can you tell us a funny blooper from behind your shop or your blog? Something that you tried and didn't work and it turned out to be a funny story for us now?

Stefanie: When I discovered Etsy a few years ago I never thought of selling so I registered with my usual screen name Steufel (mixture of my name and surname). Unfortunately Etsy doesn’t allow you to change your username – that’s the reason I’m stuck with this super-exciting shop-title “Steufel” everyone is envious about:-)

Design It Chic: Awww. We all had out moments:) Even lady gaga had a bad dressing moment:):)

Design It Chic: Hi Tiffany, can you introduce yourself in just a few words?

Tiffany: I'm a Mommy, Wife, Amateur Photographer, Etsy Shop Girl and Blogger! I have a passion for crafting which started when I was very little. My mom has a lot to do with getting my creative juices flowing at such a young age.

Design It Chic: We love people who talk and talk so can you also talk a bit about your business?

Tiffany: My business was actually started the year my daughter was born 2007. I couldn't find any cute hair accessories for her bold baby head so with a little inspiration and help from my crafty Etsian Cousin I opened Pretty Heads Boutique, that shop has since been closed. Just this past Feb. I decided to branch out and open NimblerGrove (it is an anagram for November Girl). I was getting a lot of requests from friends, family and customers who wanted something pretty for themselves. I decided to dive in full force and started making fabric flowers!! My flower accessories can be worn/used just about anywhere. I am now making loose flowers you can add to whatever you want. These are my new {Supply Flowers}.

Design It Chic: We see you have such adorable hair accessories in there. We bet our readers can't wait to see the grand finale of this interview. But before that can you please tell us how do you come up with your designs?

Tiffany: Nature! I love all the natural patterns that occur in nature. My Etsy shop is inspired by nature and all the glorious colors in it. Also I love the 1920s and the Flappers. I often get full inspiration from that time period.

Design It Chic: Aham. Do you have any special designs for the Holiday season that our readers can snag right away?

Tiffany: I will have Holiday Inspired accessories soon. I am just finishing up for fall so stay tuned.

Design It Chic: We hear you also have a blog right? Tell us a bit what's going on in there?

Tiffany: I have 2 blogs. The first blog is a Personal/Review/Giveaway Blog all about Fabulous Finds, it is Fabulous Finds by NimblerGrove. I love sharing with my loyal readers fabulous products I find and most often there is a giveaway to go along with any review I do. The second blog is all about Etsy November Girlxo, from the Treasuries I am featured in, to things I am working on. Design It Chic: Boy you have a lot of work going on. Do you find any time for family and friends in between??

Tiffany: Most of the weekends and evenings are left for family time. I take lots of breaks throughout the day to play and take care of my rambunctious 3 year old... oh yeah and do housework..

Tiffany: Last week I really needed to get some flowers made for a client of mine. I decided to buy premade meatloaf and pass it off as my own. The hubbs loved it so I played along, you know I didn't let him know it was premade. A few days later I asked him if he wanted to make that meatloaf again. He looked up at me and said he saw the box in the trash. I was mortified. Here I was trying to pass it off as my own and he knew all along...Too funny. The things we do sometimes to try and get a few more hours out of each day.

How to make crossed out text

Hi all! Midweek so today we'll be teaching another one of our easy HTML tutorials! What do you guys say about the crossed out text?? I'll share with you how to do that and even bump it up a bit, cause text with a strike through line is the new Justin Bieber:)

1. First you can cross your text with a line by copying this paragraph:

Replace "your text here" with your own text. This is how it turns out: ~~your text here~~

2. Now you can go ahead and make the text oblique, by copying this line:

Your text now should turn out something like this: ~~your text here~~ instead of just ~~your text here~~

3. And to even make the text stand out, you can use this line:

Hi all! Today i want to introduce you to our brand new campaign Show Yo' Flow @ Design It Chic. This new concept combines two of the things we have promoted here on our blog: expand and reward your blog readership.

So basically this is how it goes: we're looking for 7 applicants that own a small business and a blog too. You can apply by leaving a comment to this post. Each applicant should leave their business link(it can be anything: Etsy store, small online store, local store, anything business) & blog link in the comment section and then grab the button, so we know they're participating and on November 7 we will draw our 7 winners.
What will happen then? Well i generally wear a long sleeve and a cardigan over it donned with a scarf and either a pair of skinny jeans or straight leg pants. Unclutter your blog - homepage!

Hi all!! Today we'll clean our blog's homepage a bit, to keep up the "unclutterness". Yup that's right, we'll look into few ways of helping your blog look cleaner by focusing on the homepage.
Your homepage is the first thing your readers see, so it acts like your business card. You have just a few seconds to hook up your readers, or else they'll leave you like a wet puppy in the streets. So thanks to that, you must prep up your homepage fields for reader-stickiness. So here it goes:

1. The first thing you need to target your attention to is your banner/flash animation. Is it representative for what your blog theme is? Does it have your blog's name in it? Does it have a subtitle that fades away the name?
For instance, if you are a blogger that talks about homeschool ideas, then your blog can't have this combination: name - Homeschool 101 and banner/flash animation - gothic elements. They are ok in particular, but they don't go together. You have to make sure that both of them say the same thing.

2. Once you took care of the first impact step, you need to make sure that your homepage content is the spokesman of your blog. The homepage content acts like a great ad banner for the rest of your blog. So if for instance you have an Etsy business and your blog is a way of unwrapping what goes behind it, then you need to make sure your blog's homepage has features of your products and you can also include a small link to your Etsy shop. This way your homepage remains a great spokesman and a portal to the inside of your blog but also becomes an advertising platform for your outside Etsy store.

3. Next important thing on your homepage is information availability! That means you need to have your information clearly compartmentalized and placed in the most eye-focus available spot. If your blog takes on adopting a baby, fertility problems and family support, then that should be your compartmentalized information. Create an easy access path for those topics and keep them in the eye-focus spot. It will act like a portal to the rest of your blog and this way your readers will know from the beginning what you're up to. So find your unique style to remain clear and available with your information.

4. Last but not least, avoid dated content and broken links on your homepage, as they will harm your blog's credibility. If your links(that represents a path to a certain page of your blog) are broken then the reader mind works like this: "eh.. not working.. let's see what this other site has". You need to regularly review your blog, removing old content and updating information. Double check to see if every link is usable and every information you offer on your homepage stays up to date. Nothing turns off a reader than a homepage about fashion and a blog about cloth diapering. Not that they're not both fun, but because diapering and fashion they're no PB&J:)

How to protect your computer!

Hi all! New week again and today we'll be discussing about an issue each and any one of us would be interested in: how to make our computer secure. Since most of us use computers on a daily basis, either at work or at home, we rely on them to keep our information safe. But how safe is "safe"? Do we take all measures to prevent damages happening? What are the basics anyone should know when it comes to securing our computers?
Thanks to these question, our topic for today is: how to protect your computer!

1. First thing that anyone should be aware of is that computers at work are not secure. They might be somewhat secure for the company you're working for, but when it comes to your personal security, they don't go that far. Your employee has the right to surveillance of your electronic correspondence and even trace your activity online, including passwords and everything you do that is stored in the company's system. So when you use the computer at work, remind yourself that even surfing the internet, exposes you to a greater risk.

2. On the other hand when it comes to your personal computer, there are a few things that might help you prevent identity theft and other personal information damages. One thing that anyone should consider is having a reliable and up-to-date security software. Every computer comes with these softwares pre-installed, but they are available for only a limited amount of time unless paying a subscription. It is however very important that you have a paying security software, because those are generally more up to date with the latest threads that might corrupt your system.

3. Opening into details, one security step that anyone should take is having an anti-virus software, that protects you against data damage, computer crashes or slow performances. They work in patterns when looking for mallware, and since the viruses develop by day, your anti-virus should be up to date too. At the same time, having two anti-viruses actively running on your computer is not recommendable, and it doesn't ensure you of a more secure environment.

4. Another security measure you should have is a Firewall, that prevents data entering or leaving your computer without your permission. It blocks unauthorized actions coming from outside of your computer and gives you a cloak of protection when browsing on internet. There are software firewalls(programs) and hardware firewalls(routers), that can be run in the same time. However running two softwares at the same time is not advisable. In both cases, without the properly configuration, they won't serve your needs at their best.

5. To make your security system stronger, it is important to run an anti-spyware software on your computer as well, as it protects you against Trojan horses and other ad-ware and spyware that may be installed in your system and gathers information of you on the internet(including passwords and other personal information) without you even knowing. Spyware generally comes attached to other softwares you're installing, so make sure you limit your program installation to minimum and only by authorized companies. Because even small things as installing a music player or a new toolbar for your browser, or even clicking on a pop-up box while on the internet, could lead spyware right into your computer's files.

6. Another must-do to protect your computer is maintain you wireless connection security. Since a WiFi network doesn't require cable connection and just to be within the wireless access area, it can be easily high jacked by attackers around the area that discover an unprotected connection. So whenever you enter personal information such as your social security number, bank information or passwords, make sure you are on a page that encrypts information or that your WiFi connection is encrypted. If that's not the case, using a VPN that encrypts over an un-encrypted WiFi connection or checking for SSL certificates on all websites you're using personal information on(making sure the URL starts with "https://"), can make the difference.

7. Using a secure browser on internet is also vital to your personal security. Between the two most used browsers, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer, the experts tend to give more props towards Firefox, since it has proven a faster way of fixing bugs thanks to its open source nature and effective security add-ons. Some of the most used Firefox add-ons are "adblock plus" - a customizable filters-army that prevents certain banners or adverts to pop up, thus lowering the possibility of spyware installed in your files. Another useful add-on is "no script" - a customizable security tool that allows JavaScript and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice. Or even "better privacy" - a safeguard tool that protects you against not deletable long-term cookies placed in your central system folder like LSO or DOM Storage.

I was always an advocate of pies here, but besides the already popular apple pies(for some odd reason we don't like pumpkin no more) we are huge fans of carrot cake!! It's true that it adds tons of calories.. but who cares, we'll get rid of that once the Holiday season has passed, right?:) Now what is your favorite recipe around the fall season?? How to increase blog traffic!

Hi all!!! Since here at Design It Chic we're putting our blogs in the check-up spot, today we'll focus our attention over some new tips to improve our blog's traffic!
Everybody wants to know they're not alone! Even if we are a food critic, a professional blogger or we're journaling our family life, we definitely want to know we're not the only ones who read our blog. We want to be connected with people that share our interests and be part of a stronger community that supports, understands and encourages one another. There's nothing wrong with that; it's in our human nature to be social creatures, so don't feel bad you want to be surrounded by people. But the big questions is how do we provide the context to attract people to our blog?

And naturally this will make our topic today: how to increase your blog traffic!

1. It all starts with a catchy name! Many of us get their name by their most important activity at the moment or in our life: either our new job, our baby, our new marital status or simply the newest most important event that happened to us. There's nothing wrong with that, but as you grow and you find your path through blogging, you figure out what you want to write about and remain consistent in, and suddenly you find that your blog name is no longer fitting your new blog's concept. In that case you need to be able to let go of the initial name and find a new one, that is more generic, yet catchy and could allow you a wider specter for future changes. You don't want to change your name too often though, because that itself is a big "NO-NO" to attract readership; it will become misleading and confusing. So whenever you decide is time to change, think for the future as well!

2. Read-proof your posts before publishing them! Nobody expects us to be grammatically correct 100%, but there's many times that we're either tired, either in a hurry and mistakes can occur. To prevent this happening too often implies reading our posts once or twice after we're done writing. Think about it: every good article in a glossy magazine is verified by writers, proof-read by a few editors, then approved by the editor in chief and so on.Now on a smaller scale your blog should go through the same process, but since the majority of blogging people don't have an entire team to work and divide the process with, it's kind of in our own hands to do that. But it sure goes a long way, since people get often tired by grammar mistakes or bad concept's explanations.

3. Reward your readers! Even if you're not a giveaway blog, every once in a while, rewarding your readers with some kind of gifts is very important to maintain and develop your readership. It shows appreciation of the people who daily read your posts or they stimulate the new people that just landed on your blog! Think about it: every television channel, every magazine, every radio channel, they all do it! Don't you wonder why? It was proved in time that people respond positively to this kind of actions every once in a while. This is called great marketing campaigns! Therefore everyone should do it, regardless of what your main blogging theme is all about. But as in all cases, excess drives to either completely switching your profile or a big failure, so be careful with that!

4. Do tutorials! Everyone wants to learn something new once in a while, so why not be you the one who shares what you know?! "How to's" are very popular these days, so if you shared the picture of your new living room makeover, you might as well come back and tell your readers how you got there! Or if you just shared a picture of your daughter's fabulous birthday cake that you made it yourself, why not come back and tell everyone how you did it?! No matter what you're writing about, there's definitely subjects you can write a "how to" post. Be careful tough, to remain true to your blog's concept: if you're documenting your family life you can't give your expertise in chemical engineer, or if you're sharing your recipes you can't give a validating opinion over programming languages, or if you're a computer geek you can't give your expertise in great wine; it just doesn't work that way! You need to sentence your opinion around the domain you have authority over, and that surely is the one you're daily writing about! So stay true to who you are when writing tutorials!

5. Get a great logo for your Gravatar and FavIcon! This is like every big brand's logo, it's just that it goes online with you! Your Gravatar is the little image you have next to your profile description(and it appears every time you comment on someone else's blog) and your FavIcon is the little image that goes to the left of your URL(and it appears in everyone's bookmarks). I bet everyone could name all the previous FavIcons! See, it works that way that you recognize a brand after their small signature! They're such small images, but with such a huge impact! Just like the little "f" for Facebook and "t" for Twitter, they're your signature outside of your blog. The more you'll make your presence known outside the blog, the more you'll need a very well defined identity, and with that comes these little logos that represent you outside your blog. It's like your business card:) What does your Gravatar and FavIcon say about you?? Do they represent you well?? This is a great question to be wrapping up today's post!

Make your blog stand out!

Hi all!!! Since here at Design It Chic we're putting our blogs in the check-up spot, today we'll focus our attention over how to make your blog bling through:)
There's a lot of blogs out there that are new to the blogging community, they have great content, yet somehow they don't manage to break through. Well besides a lot of SEO tricks and decluttering tips, blog design and other easy HTML tutorials, there's also this thing called branding your blog.

So today's topic will be just that: how to make your blog stand out!

1. There's many ways you can attract attention, but the best way to do it is "Spiderwebthinking": you need to think in layers strong enough to be able to repeat symmetrically but always be new and sticky. So the first step in being a pro' blogger is to be consistent! If you blog just here and there, that's just fine, but if you really want to step up a notch you need to post at least 3-4 times a week. There are also blogs that post 2-3 times a day, which is good, but if you're just now building up, without the proper SEO customization and good content, there's hardly any point in that. So if you want to have a steady and meaningful growth over the bloggiland, you need to remain consistent!

2. Besides the design elements that make you unique, the next important branding tool for your blog is your voice. There's a lot of good content over the internet, but what draws you to read a certain blog over another? Isn't it the way the content is served back to you? I think so! It doesn't matter whether you're sarcastic and funny, or serious and profound, you gotta find your voice and follow it! Your audience will shortly follow up with you if they feel like you're exposing who you are through your content or the way you flip it back to them.

3. Another great branding stratagem is helping your readers understand abstract concepts! So for instance if working with coupons is what you do since the-bad-haircut-highschool-days, you need to remember there's also Betty-the-geeky-chick who has no clue what CRT or FAR means.(and just for the record i just Googled these terms and seems like they mean..CRT=Cash register tape ; FAR=Free After Rebate... i admit i suck at this:) So next time you're talking about concepts that seem normal to you, make sure you translate those into "regular-language" so everybody can understand:)

4. To push the blog brand even further, create your own new concept and give it a catchy name! For instance if you're a recipe blog, you can come up with the concept of let's say each recipe you try you gotta make it your own by adding at least 3 new ingredients that moves the taste to a whole other level. You can name that "the 3 scoops". Your readership, may get infected with the catchy name and use the term outside your blog, and who knows, you may become contagious:) So next time you're directing a new blogging scene, make sure you stamp that concept with a catchy etiquette.

5. The last but not the least branding secret is to create a unique way of saying old stories new! It's true that there's few things that can be totally new to your readers, so nobody asks you to reinvent the wheel, but can you at least pimp the wheel(i just had a blackout moment with a pimp my bicycle kind of show :P)
I mean, for example, there's many book review blogs out there, but what if one of them would review the book from the main character's point of view? Wouldn't that be interesting?? It would be to me.. and it would more likely make me read that blog over another one:)
