Now my Question here is:

What is the proper menu choice for a baby shower?

I told you I'm planning a baby shower for my best friend and I'm a totally sucker at choosing a proper menu for this. And this raise another question.. where is the proper time of the day to have this baby shower? I know my best friend D sleeps late in the morning(she has a difficult pregnancy so she has to stay in bed all day.. so what else to do than sleep), then she sleeps a little more after lunch... so probably 6-7?!? would that be a good time?!?! and then again.. if this is the best time to have it for her.. what do i give for food?!?.. just snick snacks?? just please help me out people!!!!

Aloha Everyone!

I think really its different for different people. My first baby shower it was in June and we had it on a Saturday at around noon, we had veggies and chips and cake. My second baby it was in March and it was on a Friday at 6pm and we had homemade chili and snacks. We threw my friend a baby shower in May and it was on a Saturday at 11am and we had mini tuna sandwiches, peanut butter sandwiches, veggies, some candy and some mini soda cans (cute Idea is to fill up a baby bath with ice and put mini sodas in their for people to get :D)

Popping by via SITS... I would serve something light... late afternoon is a great time for the shower... : )

Well I have not been to a baby shower in forever, but I remember their being a cake. Also, punch, vegetables, mints, peanuts. Just light snack food. Late afternoon sounds like a good time. I like the baby bath idea, how cute would that be?!?

Congrats on 100 posts!!

As for the menu- it just really depends on the time. Personally, I think 6 is too late, esp in Dec. Never know what the weather will be like.

I'd keep it earlier. 3-4 sandwiches and pasta salads maybe?

Have fun at the baby shower. Light snacks sounds like a good idea and late afternoon.

I think snacks and fruits are great food for babyshower, and cake too :)

Congrats on your 100th post! And Congrats to Yaya! :)

Finger foods are always good - maybe late afternoon after her afternoon nap? :)

I don't know that there is one proper choice. I think finger foods is more casual and allows more mingling and talking but that is really just my opinion.

It depends on the attitude: tea cakes and punch are good, or a baby-theme, baby swiss cheese with baby carrots or just go to Giada on Everyday Italian. She has great "tea"themed ideas with an ecletic menu.

Yeah for Yaya! I would say for late afternoon you would not need to have much other than cake and punch! I just went to one at 1 pm and that is what they had and it was perfect!

Have a great weekend!

I am sorry, I cannot help out. I have never, in 40 years, been to a baby shower.

I've always given showers at restaurants. It's a lot easier.

Have a great Friday

Not to late cause she'll be tired again. I had to stay in bed the last 3 months of my first preg. I would move it up a little 4-6, cause she'll still have to get stuff put away and all that afterwards....just sayin'
Have a great weekend!

Congrats to Yaya, she will love those.

I would serve something light, veggies and dip, wraps...that type of thing.

I usually go with late afternoon and snacks.

I only had a baby shower that my students had for me (old fashioned Jewish relatives that did not believe in it). My SIL had one and it was at lunch time and they served buffet style a variety of things. Lots of finger foods and things that were easy to serve/eat. Good luck!

omg baby shower! i would choose a saturday afternoon and go crazy with all kinds of cupcakes and decorations! on the other hand it depends on how far you wanna go and how many people are coming and if you wanna do some absolutly humiliating games... which is normally not the thing for me which doesn't mean I haven't one or two in store for occasions like that xD

I had mine at 1 in the afternoon, just getting ready to throw one, and it will probably be 11 or 12 ish.

What you serve depends on the time of day...if you have it during a meal time (lunch or dinner, then you need to have some real food) but if you have it either right after lunch time (2 ish) or right before dinnertime (4ish) then you just need some snacks...a veggie tray or fruit, a cake and punch.

Most showers I have been to, it has been finger foods. People think little baby, little food. I had mine at a luncheon at Olive Garden, but I am not normal. Depends on the Mom-to-be.
