Aloha Friday!!!

Today is Friday, it's time to relax and that only means it's time for Aloha Friday! If you have no clue what Aloha Friday is already, go to An Island Life and you'll figure it out pretty fast:)

Now my Question here is:

What do you give as gifts for a baby shower?

And my answer is: I literally don't know. I have some thoughts.. but i don't know what a new mommy would expect. Would she want something useful for the new baby? Or would she want something decorative and cute? Then again if she had another kid before this one, she probably already has all the basic things she need for this baby too.. so i should stick with the decorative cute things... then again what if we have different tastes? or what if we don't? ... what would a new mommy want for her baby shower???
Please help people!!! USEFUL vs. DECORATIVE&CUTE .. which one?!?!

Aloha Everyone!

I usually try to get stuff off of their registry. If I see that there's something that was super helpful for me and it's not on there, I will throw that in too.

Once my mom and I filled a hamper with all kinds of little stuff....diapers, teething rings, onesies, baby books, toys, powder, shampoo, tons of stuff. It was beautiful but way expensive.

The last shower I went to I took clothes and a hooded towel.

I do a "gift basket" sort of thing. Diapers, an outfit or two, and a few other smaller things off of their registry.

I just went to my friend's baby shower a few months ago. I bought the baby a Leap Frog interactive Tad toy (Educational things like this and books are huge). Along with that I had a rubber duck and some of my knitted washcloths. Now that her baby is here and I know it's a boy, I got the Kohls Cares for Kids Moose stuffed animal and If you Give A Moose a Muffin book to go with it.

Clothing is great to get, but you usually get too much (especially the little sizes). If I do clothing I buy larger sizes and cotton play outfits that are good for any season.

I have not been to one in decades! I know that I preferred practical.

Since I've been the gift receiver twice at baby showers I tend to give the more practical gifts that are useful to both mother and child since those are the ones I appreciated the most.

These are some example of what I would give as gifts. If I know the mother is going to breastfeed I will buy some of the lanolin that helps with healing (it's a must have for nursing moms) and some other things to help with those first few painful weeks. If not then I will buy wipes, diapers, mylicon, Tylenol, or things of that nature.

Of course I always have to get at least one cutesy little outfit as well. Who can resist buying itty bitty baby clothes? :D

Definitely go for the useful AND cute. Get he some one adorable outfit and some diapers and wipes. I have to admit that I am not really into decorating so when I got a photo frame or something I didn't really like it all that much :)

happy friday!

I always give something off of their registry. Or, if they don't have that then cute unisex outfits (sleepers)

depends how well I know them! A gift card to the store where they are registered is always nice!If I know them then a gift off the same!

Depends on the person I am buying for. Sometimes I buy off the registry. I painted pictures for my friend's nursery (based on the bedding) for the last shower I went to. I usually give diapers & wipes when the baby is born.

I haaaaaaaaad to stop by when I read the title of your post. I'm from Hawaii so I'm very familiar with Aloha Friday. I'm singing the song in my head right now. :)

useful! She will get plenty of cute stuff and appreciate someone who gets her something she NEEDS and not just something that that person thought was cute. Speaking from experience I got like a million outfits and nothing I needed, no breastpump no changing table no diapers or wipes or medicine or anything!!!!!!!!!!! It was a bummer.

Diapers and wipes are the best along with an outfit or a blanket, or a bib.

I like to make my own gifts - partly because I am planning on opening my own online business based on this very subject. Currently my fave thing to make is designer fabric covered travel wipes cases and tubs. I also like to make a diaper milkshake or send some diaper cupcakes too. For me it really just depends how well I know the mom to be. If she is one of my besties I make her something and buy her something off of her registry. Or even better combine the two and make something with items that she registered for.

It depends on the person and the shower. That's probably not very helpful, but some people have everything alreay, some people register ... everyone seems to have a different situation.

Diapers and coupons for diapers and wipes! Oh a new mom can't get enough of diapers. We dont care about clothes. We want diapers and wipes.

Ok now that I've said that alot :)

Baby wash and more baby wash. Don't give blankets. Evveryone give blankets, there is just so many blankets one child needs!

Lotion..oh yes they need lots of lotions, socks,

Now enough of baby.

Give a gift to the mother alone. Everyone forget that mommy needs something when baby is born. Give her a nice smelling gift set or tell her you'll babysite for her for a day or few hrs or whatever.

Something for mommy.

Hope that helps!

I might be too late on this - but I like to give onesies, decorated by me. I haven't done this for years, but the next baby shower I go to-this is it!

Just buy a couple packs of white onesies, cause the new mom will need a million of these.
You can use puffy paint or fabric paint of any kind and you can just trace big circles, or a tie, or draw a ribbon the sleeves, or write up some cute sayings....super easy, personalized and thoughtful, but really economical!!
I would pair up about 6-9 hand-crafted ones and buy some cute sweat pants and maybe some socks-cause they are adorable. Done!

This is late but if it's someone you like and don't mind spending a little money on...I enjoy making diaper cakes. Look them up on line, and everyone always loves them when you bring them to the party :)
