It's Friday again and that means just one thing: it's time for Aloha Friday! Don't know what that is, go over An Island Life and see how this all works.
Meanwhile here's my question:
How do you lovely ladies sterilize the dishes you buy at thrift stores and flea markets???
I looked up on the internet and i saw that many restaurants do a solution that is 1 part bleach and 2 parts water and then let the dishes air dry. But bleach on the plates I'm planning to use for food sounds a wee bit scary to me. Then again, what happens if the dishes are pewter dishes?? How do you sterilize that then?? And also consider i don't own a dishwasher..* bummer i know *
I'm really looking forward for your answers, cause I'm really in a pickle with this one here!
Thanks a lot!
Oh and also i received this cute award from Tricia @ Thought Treads Thanks alot Tricia!

I just wash them with my regular dishes...
My dish washer has a sterilizing setting. i would use that.
Hey girl,
Sorry I missed you post the other day. Did you change your blog? It looks great? I do not know how to tell you about the dishes. I asked my Mom and she said, "bring them home and wash them" I know Ha Ha. Have a great weekend.
I've never sterilized any dishes I've gotten from the thrift. A good washing is all they need really.
Just wash them is what I do. I haven't even really thought about sterilizing them.
what they're not clean when i bring them home? oh dang, maybe i should clean them now... :-) just kidding. i just throw them in the dishwasher, i figure, we all eat of used dished in restaurants so, whats the diff?
i love this award, thank you, i totally dig its purpose too!
xoxo maryrc
I don't have a dish washer either!!! (Its awful, right??) I don't think I would use bleach either...that kind of grosses me out. Hmmm...I would just use hot soapy water. I've never bought dishes at a thrift store because I don't have room for even the ones I got for the wedding, but thats what I would do if I needed to!
Thanks for the award!!!
Gosh ~ I always just used the dishwasher! And none of us ever got sick, so . . . .???
I just wash it with regular dish soap--never thought to sterilize
I've never bought used dishes before because I don't always trust sterilization. I do tend to buy my dishes at the 99 cent store tho.
Um, haven't bought dishes second-hand, but I'd say running them through a dishwasher would be good enough for me. Without a DW, how 'bout just hot water and antiseptic soap?
I let it soak a while in hot water and det. and then wash them.
Usually just regular dishwater.. or soak them in vinegar.
Thank you for the awesome award! :) My very first one and it has great meaning! Have an awesome weekend!
Don't be afraid to use bleach. They now advertise sterlizing baby bottles with hot water and a capful of bleach (not a huge amount).
Hey! Thank you so much!!!
I'm so excited :)
Thanks so much for the blog love! Right back at ya! x
Normal hot water and dish soap.
I have never bought my dishes at a thrift store. I will buy them at Target or dollar stores though. Very recently Ralphs had glasses for 99 cents each. I bought 6.
