Privacy protection on your blog!

Hi all! New week starting off and I thought today we can discuss a bit about the privacy aspect of having your life or part of your life up on the web. There's been many issues on this topic but today we're looking into some of them that are relevant to our blog managing department.
So naturally today's topic is: protect your privacy on your blog!

There's been a lot of cases when people lost their jobs over some social network profile or rude remarks towards their boss on their personal blog. Many have asked why does that happens, and the answer is simple: all employers are looking for employees with integrity, dedication, that are well prepared and not litigious to their company image.
Therefore there's no such thing as "private conversations" or "personal blog", as long as you don't customize your platform to run those filters that would allow you a more "private space". And in many cases, even with those on, you can never guarantee 100% privacy, however you can at least be more cautious with the little things that can be done.

Now move into practice, there's a few steps that you can do to keep your blog more private.

1. First and most important is content. If your blog is all about burning off steam from work or from your husband's work, make sure you turn your blog completely private. How can you do that? Well simple. Sign in your "Dashboard", then go to "Settings" and click on the last tab called "Permission".

Make sure the "Only People I Choose" option is marked and then write all the email addresses(separated by commas) of the people you'd like to read your blog. Then hit "Invite" and you're done!

2. Now if you don't want to be completely private, but want to make sure not all your envious neighbors are going to leave rude comments on your new grass cutting machine that you just posted about... Well then you need to turn your comments private too. For this tough, there's more ways you can do it. You can either choose what category of people to comment on your blog or you can activate comment moderation to all comments. If you don't want to sort through comments, then you can for instance choose just people with Goggle account or registered users to be able to comment on your posts. You can do that by logging in your "Dashboard", then go to "Settings" and click on the tab called "Comments". Now you can choose one of the following options and hit "save settings"

Or on the same page but scrolling down a bit you can choose comment moderation "always", and you'll get to read all comment and approve to publish only the ones that are not inappropriate.

3. Also, if you don't want to receive lots of spam in you email inbox, you'd better keep your email address away from public display and switch your entire blog profile to private by following just a few quick steps: sign in your "Dashboard", then go to "Edit profile" and make sure first tab called "Share my profile" and the third one "show my email address" are unmarked, then hit "save profile".

Also, whenever you sign in giveaways or competitions, don't leave your email address public, if you have a blog, that would be enough to be contacted through and then to follow directly with the person in charge, instead of public.

There'd be lots of other ways, like creating an "alter ego" that you go online by instead of your real name, or never give your exact home address or where your kids go to school, or where you work. It's not that you don't want to be open, but you want to be private, and that's a huge difference.
Well that's kind of it for today, i hope this was helpful and I'm looking forward to hear your methods of protecting your privacy online in the comments section. So just feel free to share with us all:)

Now check back to see what comes up next in Blogger tutorial section, SEO tips department or how we teach new HTML tricks and tips every day!

You have a lot of great tips - I love checking out what you're porting about. In terms of privacy I think it's also important to talk about content and how one can maintain privacy within a public blog. To use names or not? Posting about being out of town (probably not a good idea) etc....

Thanks for the follow. Right back at you!
